Unfortunatly you cannot check the transmission, or add fluid yourself. You have to take it to a dealer, or a transmission specialist. That's not strictly true. The Trooper uses a GM "closed" transmission system. Its possible to do it yourself, but a real PITA and requires some kind of pump system to pump in the fluid from below the vehicle. There are 2 filling bolts on the transmission pan, the lower one is the drain, the higher one towards the pan corner is the fill/level plug. You must remove the fill plug and pump fluid into it until it starts to run back out. Run the engine to distribute and warm the fluid, then check the level again, topping up if necessary. Replace the plug using new seal.
will a 3.2L 2000 Isuzu Trooper engine fit a 3.2L Isuzu rodeo transmission
dexron III
1992 - 2002 Isuzu Troopers have the GM 4L30E transmission. There is no dipstick. There is no fill tube. The only way to add fluid or check the fluid level of the transmission is through the fill plug in the transmission pan. The transmission fill plug is situated above the fluid level of the "sump" area of the pan. Add fluid by pumping it into the fill plug and let any excess drain out. You'll know it's topped off when the fluid stops pouring out.
it is on the transmission pan...you have two....its the highest one....the other is a drain plug...

On Google images, search "diagram of pulley system for 1998 Isuzu trooper"
Could be low fluid,a bad sensor or transmission going bad.
The thermostat on a 1998 Isuzu Trooper is located on the front of the motor. It is in the top radiator hose where it connects to the motor. To access the thermostat, the hose needs to be disconnected from the motor.
