I'm assuming here, as I am not entirely familiar with a 5. Mustang.

Generally, in carburettor models, the hose attaches to carburettor itse'f. It is normally a hose that recycles gases that are in the engine back into the carburettor as what i stermed as crankcase ventilation. So check on the carb, generally after the air filter but before the carb intake. So it could be connected to the air filter housing somewhere.

Mostly, the purpose of thes pipes is to:

1. Ensure that gases, that have escaped past the piston rings, don't build up excessive pressure, (as they could hinder the motors function).

2. Better fuel economy by cycling back unburnt gases into the air/fuel mixture.

3. By cycling back gases, some oil is mixed in and fed into the carb and into combustion chamber. This then slightly lubricates the upper cylinder area.
