How do you Replace starter cord on lawn mower?

How do I replace starter cord on lawn mower? Remove the engine starter cover or blower housing which contains the starter rope. Check to see if the spring is still good then just rewind the starter rope pulley to re-tension the spring. Insert the replacement rope into pulley as originally routed and let the spring wind the rope back into pulley. Then replace the starter handle. Make sure you keep tension on the starter pulley while the rope is winding.

Why does the mowing belt jump off on a 42 Murray riding mower?

Belt is stretched or the tension pulley

How do you install deck belt on 46inch huskee lawn mower?

Remove the deck. First by pulling the pins that attach the lift brackets, and then remove the rear spring, and the 2 belt guides under the engine for the belt that drives the deck (1/4" socket). After the deck is out, release the spring that applies tention on the right idler pulley (you'll have to remove the 2 side pulley covers).

A large spring fell off John Deere LX277 lawn tractor and tractor won't move Where does this spring belong and how is it attached?

This is probably the large spring that tensions the idler pulley assembly for the main drive belt (the belt that runs whenever the engine is operating and runs between the upper engine pulley and the pulley on the transmission. It hooks on the idler pully assembly on the left side of the mower and then on a vertical bracket toward the front of the mower. You'll need a big screwdriver to get it back on. Put a socket wrench on one of the idler pulleys and pivot the entire idler assembly to release tension on the belt so you can snap the spring back in place with the screwdriver. Uncle Al

Where is the spring for tightening a blade belt on a Murray 42910x92a riding mower and what size belt does it use?

The idler pulley is located just in front of and to the left of the right-side mower pulley. It's mounted on a bracket which has a long spring attached from it to the front of the mower deck. You can see a good diagram of this at www.partsandservice.com/html/Murray/lt/lt42910x92a.html and click on "mower housing". The belt is Murray part # 37X75 which translates to 1/2" wide by 91.25" around. Any larger mower shop would have this or an aftermarket equivilant.

Does anyone have a picture or diagram how to put on a deck belt on gdrm 48 greatdane mower?

The trick to putting on most v belts is to understand the pulleys. The flat surfaced pulleys will contact the back of the belt. The v pulleys will face the v on the belt. On a chariot jr., you put the belt around the drive pulley on the motor first (v facing the pulley). From the front of the mower facing the seat, the left side of the belt comes up/around to the v blade pulley to your left. Next the belt goes around the idler pulley just to the right. Then the center blade pulley. At this point the belt actually will go around the idler tension pulley (the pulley with the spring attached to it.). But, you have two options here. To put the v belt around the blade v pulley to the far right first. Or, around the idler tension pulley first. Now here's where it gets tough. You have to take a crow bar or other type bar and pull the idler tension pulley around far enough to get the belt over it. That should do it.

Where do you attach the spring on a 1554 cub cadet mower deck?

Change mower belt on John Deere 855?

I changed mine this week. This is a JD855 with 60" hydro-mower. There are 4 nuts you will have to remove or loosen. You want to raise the PTO gear box up enough to slip the new belt over the middle pulley. The hard part is stretching the tension spring back into place. I cheated and added a metal extension from the spring to the anchor hole. Once it is used a few times I expect the belt will have stretched enough to let me pull the spring all the way. Blessings, Stanley

What is the pattern for the deck belt on a John Deere 318 lawn tractor?

John Deere 318 Onanhorizontal-shaft engine has a front-mounted PTO electric clutch that drives a pulley. A tension-adjusting spring-loaded double-pulley set is frame-mounted below the electric-clutch. This drive set has two pulleys attached parallel to each other but on opposite sides. Their axis is 90 degrees rotated compared to the PTO pulley. That drive set is attached to the frame by pins which fit into frame slots. Belt tension holds it in place. Insert your belt loop up through the drive set, wrapping it onto both drive pulleys. If you wish, you may remove the drive set from the frame to start the belt fitting, but that's not necessary. Rotate the front drive set's spring-tension-adjusting knob until its indicator points to the position marked as "Install." Wrap the belt around the PTO clutch sheave which twists the belt a quarter turn between the PTO pulley and the two drive set pulleys. The belt runs down from the PTO clutch pulley, twisting 90 degrees onto the two drive set pulleys, then horizontally back, twisting in the opposite direction another 90 degrees then wraps around mower deck's drive pulley. To provide some slack during fitting, push the spring-loaded right-side drive set pulley "up" into the spring tension. After fitting the belt with V-side seated into each pulley wrap, rotate the mule drive's spring-tension adjusting knob until its tension-indicator points toward the drive set top. That applies the factory-suggested belt tension preload. If you encounter belt slippage during wet conditions as may occur when cutting juicy weeds which reduces belt-to-pulley friction, consider increasing belt pre-load tension as a compensation strategy. The factory spring-pre-load tension balances slippage against belt service life for the most commonly encountered conditions. When conditions are dryer again, reduce belt tension back to factory suggested value.
