The church headquarters is located in Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

It was founded in upstate New York, NY (Palmyra, NY). With an original group of 6 members as legally and formally recognized by the state of New York Laws at the time.

They subsequently moved to OH, MO, IL, and then traveled to the "Utah Territory" where the "Great Salt Lake was located" in 1847.

Utah was accepted as a state into the USA Union in 1896.

The current published church statistics on number of wards and stakes, countries, congregations, members, and missionaries and missions is given semi-annually in the general conference and can be found online at: www.lds.org

Most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) live outside of the United States. About 40% of Mormons live in the US, and 60% live outside of the US scattered in nearly every nation. The Church is growing most quickly in Africa and Central and South America; membership remains steady in Asia and Europe; and is sparse but exists in the Middle East.

The highest concentration of Mormons is in the western United States, and about 10% of all Mormons live in Utah.

In 2009, there were 6,058,907 baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) in the United States - that is almost 2% of the total population. These members are scattered all around the nation, worshipping in about 14 thousand congregations. There are Mormon congregations in every state and every major city in the US. 99 percent of people in the US live less than an hour's drive from a Mormon congregation!

You can find Mormon congregations in your area at the "Related Link" below.
