In pathfinder 1999 3.2 v engine is located in the distributor under a plastic cover , must remove rotor and the plastic cover(5 screws total 2 in the cap 1 in rotor
and 2 in the plastic cover) to have reach it, is and optical sensor it has a disk with a small hole in to it and the sensor caind of rap around the disk clean between the disk and the optical sensor, when it get dirty or dusty the engine misfired and some times doesn't starts, get some alcahol clearner the one use to clean the flow meter it can be bought in advance auto part or pep-boy spray with this cleaner as much as you can it will evaporate leaving no residual don't use none with grease (W40) on it it will collect lot of dirt that way, if this work for you, you just saved a ignition replacement,, Mariano Robledo Puerto Rico
