Follow the top coolant hose to where the thermostat is. Just to the left of it there should be a wire. Pull the wire off and use a 19mm deep well socket to remove the sensor. Do this while the engine is cool and you will only loose very little coolant.

The fuel pressure should be between 40 and 70 psi on a 96 Buick Regal with a 3.8. If the fuel pressure is above 70, then it is to high and should be checked out by a trusted mechanic.

No. The 96 is a 3800 Series II with different MAF sensor, fuel line attachments, fuel injectors and accessory attachments. The bolt pattern for the accessories is probably the most diffucult to overcome

There are many reasons your check engine light could come on. If your motor died while driving you should check the rank shaft sensor module, alternator and catalytic converter.
