Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Greece, India, Mali, Pakistan, Syria, Turkey and the United States of America are examples of countries where organic cotton is being grown. The highest production levels and most lucrative markets originate in China, Turkey and the United States. But competition tends to be high since the volume of consumers who prefer organic cotton is continuing to increase, with the consequence that more and more countries are making the switch to follow the Big Three's lead.

The African, American, Asian, Australian and European continents are places where organic cotton is being grown. Organic cotton also is cultivated on such islands as Madagascar and as New Zealand. Figures provided by the Organic Trade Association in 2012 listed the top 20 organic cotton producers as Syria, China, Turkey, the United States, Tanzania, Egypt, Mali, Kyrgyzstan, Peru, Pakistan, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Benin, Paraguay, Israel, Tajikistan, Brazil, Nicaragua and Senegal.
