On a 1997 Ford Ranger :
The PCM location should be the same as on my 1995 Ford EXPLORER
( if you look in the engine compartment at the firewall you should see where
the wiring harness is bolted to one end of the PCM , it is towards the
passenger side of the vehicle , and most of the PCM is " hidden " behind the
glove compartment )
the pcm is located along the upper edge of the firewall in the engine compartment..
On a 2001 Ford Ranger : In the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) located in the engine compartment , on the drivers side ( the # 54 relay is the relay for the Powertrain Control Module / PCM )

The pcm computer is mounted on the firewall on a 2000 Ford Ranger. It is on the passenger side under the hood.
Driver side on firewall behind cruise control module
The PCM on the 92 2.3 is located behind the kick panel in the front passenger side compartment so check there.
In a 1995 Ford Ranger : If it is the same as my 1995 Ford EXPLORER , the Powertrain Control Module ( PCM ) passes through the firewall One end of the PCM can be seen from the engine compartment , where the wiring harness is bolted to it and most of the PCM is " hidden " behind the glove compartment area
In the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) located in the engine compartment Relay location ( # 54 ) is the PCM relay You can view the 2002 Ford Ranger owners manual online at : www . motorcraft service . com ( no spaces ) Click on Owner Guides It includes diagrams for the Power Distribution Box and fuse panel
In the truck
The PCM relay is relay # 4 in your power distribution box in the engine compartment , also in the PD BOX in location # 6 is a 10 amp mini-fuse for the powertrain control module and in location # 8 is a 30 amp mini-fuse for the PCM relay . Ford recommends disconnecting your battery before servicing fuses/relays in the PD BOX which means your Ranger has to re-learn its idle etc.
Unhook the negative battery cable for 15-30 min
