At the old beaver dam, now bogs, at the 4th Connecticut Lake in the Town of Pittsburg, New Hampshire, a few hundred feet from the Canadian border. One may visit and view the headwaters by driving up Route 3 until you reach the American border station. Park in the large lot on the right. Wear the correct clothes for each of the seasons, bring at least a liter of water and cross the highway heading west. Looking uphill at the several signs, notice one that reads TNC (the Nature Conservancy). Follow this trail uphill, which has a steady elevation gain. This trail is 1.2 miles long, takes 30-40 minutes, crosses in & out of Canada several times and has clear border markings. When you reach the 4th Connecticut Lake there is an optional .5 loop trail around it.
