It's on the driver's side of the transmission up high and forward from the speedo sensor by the tailshaft. It is usually red with a brass 7/8 hex head on it. It will have a two-wire connector on it with clips on both sides holding it in the sensor.
on the transmission
You didn't state weather it was an Automatic or Manual transmission. Well any way they are both on the transmission. Manual transmission has a separate switch for the backup lights the automatic is built into the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Automatic switch is about $50.00. Manual switch is about $10.00. Hope you have a manual it is a lot cheaper.
Manual, top of transmission. Auto, inside the transmission.
the reverse light switch.. aka backup light switch is located on the front of the transmission along the side screws into the transmission if standing in front of the car looking down at the transmission you can see it
Inside the transmission for both manual and automatic.
the reverse safety back up switch is located on top of the transmission next to the clutch resivior
On the left side of the trans.
It's a matter of replacing the reverse position swith in the transmission. This switch tells the computer wheter it's in neutral, or reverse and when in reverse it triggers the reverse lights.
manual trans. has a switch on the drivers side of the trans, auto is in the steering column.gmjim
The reverse switch on a manual transmission Excel is on the transmission itself. Look for a two wire plug on the top of the tranmission when looking down from the top of the engine. Most automatic transmissions have a similar wiring plug.
Probably the reverse switch is bad or out of alignment. You'll need a manual to find the reverse switch. It'll be somewhere on the shifter, on the transmission, or possibly somewhere in between.
On the transmission casing towards the housing, on the top to be precise
