Your air box is most likely heating up all the air that is going into your engine or your air flow meter is faulty.
You need to replace air flow meter for your Sentra. Make sure the air filter is clean! an engine needs air to burn the fuel!
No it will not run with out it, It HAS to have it.
From my experience and basic knowledge of owning a 1.8 and 2.2 engine, i believe i carries a MAF Sensor...The 2.2 carries an air flow meter...

it should be where your air intake is, air filter, attactched to the throttle body
