Usually if it's bad you can just turn the heat on with a medium fan speed and follow the smell of burning plastic.
It should be under the dash on the right hand side near the blower motor. It has a bunch of wires going to it and 2 wires to the blower motor.
Note that on many of these trucks, a defective blower resistor can burn the electrical connector. Always check the connector for signs of damage when replacing the resistor and if it's damaged, replace the connector as well as the resistor.
