The catalytic converter is nothing more than a wide spot in the exhaust line with some specialized material that promotes the burning of any remaining hydrocarbons. They are easy to replace but usually don't need replacing unless your engine burns oil or you have been using leaded fuel. FRONT CONVERTER IS INTEGRAL WITH MANIFOLD AND MUST BE REPLACED AS A UNIT.
