I eyeballed the Med and decided that the Strait of Gibraltar was the spot where Europe was closest to Africa.
At it's narrowest point the Strait is only about 16 km. wide if you simply measure the distance using the scale on the Google Map of the Strait.
However, if you do a search on the Strait of Gibraltar you will discover that the actual distance is only 14.3 km.
That appears to be the most accurate answer.

Count the seconds between when the lightning flashes and the sound of the thunder. Divide the number of seconds that pass by five to get the distance in miles or by eight to get the number of kilometers. Note that this only gives you the distance to the bolt of lightning. The storm cell itself is probably at least a few miles across.
The least distance is across the Strait of Gibraltar.

There was strong Islamic influence in North Africa, the Middle East, parts of southern and southeastern Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, and Indonesia.
