up against the firewall mounted to the cylinder head, on my 98 it sits at an angle above cylinder #4, has metal pipe that goes to the intake manifold.
A faulty EGR valve can cause a 98 Chevy to fail a smog test. The oxygen sensors should also be tested as they can also cause a 98 Chevy to fail a smog test.
erg or egr? egr valve is located in the back top of the engine slightly to the left if your looking under the hood. it looks like a cylinder...thats the way it is in my 98 anyhow It is to the rear of the motor on left. Cylinder shaped with wires coming out of the top. 2 bolts hold it in place.
A 1998 Dodge Ram does not have EGR.
That's your EGR valve flow is insufficient. Replace the EGR valve.
take the EGR valve off and spray carb cleaner in the egr valve and in the port. This will some times work as it gets plugged up
There is no PCV valve on the 2.2 Liter engine.
After removing an EGR valve from the vehicle, the valve can be flushed with carburetor cleaner. If the valve still sticks then a replacement will be needed.
Code P1491 Means: EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected EGR Valve needs to be replaced
It's bolted right on top of the egr valve which is on the back of the engine under the throttle body there will be a small vacuum line going into where the egr valve bolts into the intake
Its under the EGR on the block ya. follow a hose from egr to vsv from underside of car
It should. Look at the EGR valve; it's on the drivers side of the head. If the EGR valve is the same, everything else should be easy to exchange.
On a 98 rav4 you disconnect the two rubber hoses one on top and one on the side, you then remove the 12 mm nuts that bolt the valve to the intake manifold, then you remove the 10 mm screws from the bottom of the valve that goes to the cylinder head.
