it may be in your fuel tank....if it's EFI (electronic Fuel Injection) just look at your Intake for 4 injectors you should see them, unless it's TBI (throttle Body Injection) in any event. I'm sure those model years were close cousins to the Toyota Corolla so check out Toyota as well. have fun
the fuel filter is located on the drivers side close to the fire wall, its white an looks like a little canster with to lines on it.
On the fuel line going to the carburetor.

It is in the inlet to the carburettor. Remove the fuel line at the carburettor and then the large nut (1 inch). Remove the filter and be careful not to lose the spring.

The fuel filter for a 1986 Chevy G20 should be mounted on the frame under the van. The filter is an inline type and should be easy to change.
If it is Fuel Injected, it is located in the fuel tank mounted on top. If not follow the fuel line to the engine, as it will go to the fuel pump.

look on the distributer side of the engine, right beside the fuel pump is a gooseneck with two bolts .water hose from the bottom of radiator connects to this gooseneck. loosen the two bolts and the thermostat is there
The fuel pump relay allows the pump to be turned on and off. On a 1986 Chevy Astro van, the fuel pump relay is located under the hood and directly in front of the passenger seat, to the right of the A/C clutch control relay.
