The fuel pump is in the tank. There is an access plate in the boot just behind the rear seats. To get to the plate and get the pump out you will need to remove the rear seats. It can be quite fiddly to get out and back in again, so a bit of patience may be required.

The Subaru Impreza does not have a fuel pump inertia switch. If you are having fuel issues it could be the fuel pump relay or fuel pump.
Every fuel injected vehicle that I am aware has the fuel pump inside the gas tank. Subaru is no exception. --Ken
