on my zx2 the fuel pump relay and wiring harness are located just under the rear seats my zx2 is an s/r not sure if there is a difference but im pretty sure there isnt

All ZX2 (all 3rd generation Escorts for that matter) have the fuel pump relay in the Constant Control Relay Moudle (CCRM) which is located under the air filter box. The CCRM also has other system relays like A/C compressor, PCM power, etc.
The fuel pump relay on a 2000 Ford Escort is located under the hood in the engine compartment. It is in the fuse box.
According to the 1998 Ford Escort owners manual : All models have a ( 48.5 litre / 12.8 U.S. gallon ) fuel tank
