The only way I can explain it is to follow the wiring from your coil pack (where the spark plugs are) and the wires plug into the ignition module. Also go go www.wrenchead.ca and it has a manual that explains all.

if you don't know the answer to a question please keep your moth shut ,please don't waste my time

there is no ignition control module on the 1996 model its all through the PCM

Only the EEC-IV ignition systems ( 1991 to 1995) use an external ICM (ignition control module) . From 1996 on with the EEC-V system the ignition control module is incorperated into the power control module (PCM) mounted in your firewall on the passenger side.

The engine computer is the ignition module.

The 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse ignition module is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The ignition module will be on the drivers side of the firewall.

From 1991 to 1995 with the EEC-IV system there is an external ignition control module mounted on the radiator support in front of the battery. Remove the battery in order to change the module. 1996 and newer with the EEC-V system, the ignition control module is incorperated into the powertrain control module (PCM) that is visible from the engine compartment, in the firewall, on the passenger side.

AnswerSince 1996, engine ignition control has been handled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).The PCM has direct control over the ignition coils / coilpack (or coil-on-plug on some engines) - so the need for a 'distributor' has gone away.Coilpacks cost about $75Sidebar: without a distributor, the engine timing is also totally handled by the PCM.See "Related Questions" below for information about Ignition Control Modules on 1986-1995 Taurus/Sables.On a 1996 Ford Taurus the ignition control module is part of the drivetrain control module. To change the ignition control module you have to change out the computer. It is located behind the motor on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Look for a screw holding in a wiring plug with a dozen or so wires. The drivetrain control module has a couple of nuts holding it in place and looks like a cdrom when removed. Good luck. John

Ignition system is controlled by Vehicle Control Module (VCM). The VCM monitors the information from various engine sensors, computes the desired spark timing and controls the dwell and firing of the ignition coil via an (IC) line to the ignition control module. Hope this helps.
