As far as I know it doesn't have a knock sensor , my 1995 doesn't have one
according to the engine wiring schematic in my Haynes book
( I believe in 1996 with the EEC- V system , the 4.0 L - OHV has a knock sensor )
A malfunction has been detected , could be a sensor

well,, you can start by turning the switch on your dash that says '4wd'
On engine block
There wasnt a 5.0L explorer in 1992
DEPENDS ON WHAT YEAR. ON THE 1993 EDDIE BAUER 4WD - THE SPEED SENSOR IS PART OF THE SPEEDOMETER CABLE. THE SPEEDOMETER DRIVE GEAR GOES INTO THE TRANSMISSION DRIVEN GEAR (INSIDE TRANNY). THE SENSOR HAS AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION THAT JUST PLUGS IN AT THE TOP.

It is for the 4WD control knob. In models without 4WD it is just an extra place to put something.
Answeri think its on the back of the transfer caseNope, the motor on the back of the transfer case shifts the cheicle from 2wd to 4wd high and 4wd low. The speed sensors are located in the brake calipers on each wheel. The speed sensor for the front are located in the calipers but the rear is located in the differential housing.
with a Large HAMMERRRthanks for the sugested solution but I TRY THAT ALREADY AND IS NOT WORKING
