The 1996 VW Polo distributor wire order is 1-3-4-2. The number one spot should be marked on the distributor cap.

The distributor rotates in the clockwise direction. The number 1 cylinder wire goes on the first wire tower above the flat spot as the rotor turns. By the flat spot I mean the area where the ignition module goes through the distributor cap. Hope that is helpful. An illustration would be much easier than a written explanation, but I can't post an illustration here. .
It's the 7.5 amp fuse in the number 10 spot.
The distributor on the 1100 Mini cooper is in the same spot as the rest of the A series motors. The forward side of the motor right in the middle.
