If you slide under the front of the IX35 you will see a round plastic cap that is fitted to the plastic guard underneath the motor. The cap has a plastic clip to hold it in place, so just push the clip in and the cap will come off. You then have a plastic filter cover with a large plastic nut on the bottom and a small allen key bolt in the middle of it. The filter is a replacement cartridge filter and costs $59 in Australia. To replace the filter undo the small allen key bolt to let the oil out of the filter housing and the undo the housing. Remove the cartridge filter and replace with a new one. Replace the O rings ( comes with the filter ) and torque to correct specs.

At the base of the engine on the right side. You will need to be under the vehicle. Also, make sure to replace with PF58 instead of PF59 as indicated by the service manual. It is a misprint. PF 59 will cause an oil leak at the crankshaft position sensor. According to Sewell Cadillac, the correct oil filter is AC Delco PF61. If your not sure like I was, call your local dealer or auto parts store. They will all tell you that it is the PF61. There is actually another posting about the 2004 Trailblazer's oil filter on this web-site confirming the PF61. Check it out for yourself. most trailblazers have skidplates there is a access panel use flat or Phillips screwdriver to open i use the band wrench lol
