Back of the engine, next to the distributor.
An 01 impala only has to meet the emissions requirements in effect on the date of manufacture. It does not have to meet more recent, more stringent standards.
the high pressure sensor is mounted on the back of the a/c compressor with a snap ring and sealed with an "o" ring.
Sounds like it may be the oil pressure lamp switch, these are known to fail sometimes.Don't mess around when oil leakage is severe, call at any garage for a visual check and correct diagnosis.Delay might cost you an engine.Geoff.
AnswerOk i gotta say it LOW OIL PRESSURE :) Just messin with you :) it could be multiple things your low on oil, you got a serious leak, or the enigne is history, I think low oil level might be the most common.I have an '01 Aztek and the Oil Pressure Switch (Sending unit) is bad. It's a $15-$25 part depending on where you buy it. Take it to a qualified shop and have them "scan" the computer. It should show up as a stored trouble code. Mine only did it a few random times. For those of us who've lost an oil pump, you generally "know" by the really bad knocking noises from under the hood. If it's not the switch, sorry, you need a pump!
