how do you bypass pass key on 96 buick riviera? wire from key switch has been pulled out of connector?thanks.Carl.
The starter enable relay is located behind the driver side kick panel (where the hood latch release is). To access, there are two screws that hold the kick panel in place. Remove the screws, pull out the kick panel, you will see a black plastic relay with four wires going to it. This is your starter enable relay. There is no such thing. There is a starter solonoid which is on top of the starter. actually there is a starter enable relay on these camaros. i have an 89 iroc. the starter enable relay is used with the 'pass key' anti-theft system. there is a resistor in the ignition key, without the special key, the car won't start. this pass key system energizes the starter enable relay, allowing voltage to pass to the starter solenoid.
No you cannot remove the system how ever there are ways to bypass it. You can by pass it at the ignition or you can by pass it at the module.
If it is like my '86 Samurai there is no starter relay. It uses a starter solenoid on the top of the starter to pass battery to starter motor when the solenoid is activated via the key switch.
Any good locksmith (not at the hardware stores) can make keys for virtually any make of car.
I figured it out myself...it was the inhibitor relay got wet.
I would suspect the relay on the firewall under the plastic cover of the drivers side.
Its the solenoid (relay) that you are jumping. If i understand you correctly, it cranks when you cross the relay. Just ask for starter solenoid, and stick in on like the old one.
