there is no tach sensor. it is my understanding that the tach is controlled by 2 sensors. The first is the TPS(Throttle position sensor) which is located on the drivers side under the fuel pump, it has 3 wires a purple which is a 5 volt send wire, a ground wire and a return signal wire. these can be tested but I have not found the plug yet to test the resistance in the wiring harness. The second sensor as I understand is the camshaft position sensor, I have yet to find this one and test it on my truck. I did the self diagnosis on the cluster by pressing the reset button on the dash and holding it and turning on the ignition till all lights light up the releasing it, the gauges will preform a self test and on mine the tach did nothing, given this info I am concluding that my tach is bad and not the cluster cause all the other gauges tested according to specs as outlined by Dodge. I have extensive knowledge on this truck as I own a 2006 dodge ram 2500 larime equipped with monster intake a superchip 4' exhaust and a upgraded ECM.
