The old and aging Tappan Zee Bridge is located up the Hudson River a good 10-15 miles north from New York City. The bridge connects city traffic from Tarryville, Westchester County on the eastern side to the upstate part of New York in Nyack, Rockland County on the western side. The road used by the bridge is the New York State Throughway (designated Interstates 87 and 287 through that stretch) which is a heavily travelled and reliable road to use from New York City to Albany and places north and west of the Capital District (such as Canada, Rochester, Buffalo, and points further west such as Chicago or Detroit).
Construction started in 1956 and the bridge opened up for traffic in 1955.
I live near the Tappan Zee Bridge and it is located in the town of Tarrytown on the East side of the Hudson River (I'm not sure what town is on the other side of the river).
