It is torwards the middle of the engine, if you follow the large heater/coolant hose, there will be this small cast piece that has a bleeder valve on top. There will be 2 10mm bolts that you will need a magnetized socked, and at least a 3 inch extension to get to. You will also need a pair of channel locks, or a big enough pair of pliers to open around the constant tension clamp. Do not do this hot, coolant will come out of the hose when you pull it free.

Depends on what size engine you have, and what year of Grand Am you have. Mine is a 1996 with a 2.4L engine. So my thermostat is located in the bottom radiator hose, where it goes into the water pump.
To replace the thermostat on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1, first disconnect the negative battery terminal and loosen the clamp on the radiator hose. Next, remove the mounting bolts from the thermostat housing and insert the new thermostat.
