I just went out and looked at my Grand Am because I think it needs a thermostat and on the casing in small print it says thermostat located at waterpump,so now I just need to locate the waterpump,I think it is underneath.
Whoever wrote the first answer, YOU are the idiot and you either don't own a 2.4l engine or you are a wannabe mechanic. if you look at the top of the engine on the drivers side the water outlet housing says thermostat is located at the water pump. second you either have to be a midget or a contortionist to get to the back of the water pump housing. follow the water crossover pipe on the bottom of the engine, where the hose connects to the water pump is the thermostat housing. you may have to remove the exhaust manifold heat shield to get better access from the top. either way it is not a fast or easy process, but take your time and it can be done.
