if it is a 2.3 single overhead quad 4 the thermostat is not in the traditional place it is at the end of the lower radiator hose on the pasenger side of the bottom side of the engine the water pump is accessable from the upper passenger side but there is more room if you take of the exhaust manifold first which needs to be done to change the thermostat
