Hummis is the Arabic word for Chickpea.

The chickpea was cultivated in the Middle East for thousands of years. More than 7,000 year in fact.

The Phoenicians are given credit for introducing the chickpea to Western Europe.

The product is also popular all around the Mediterranian and India and is therefore also claimed to be first used in many other areas.
