A lot depends on what you have available to you. You can read a little about the various traditions and see what appeals to you. They range from some very old schools, like Tibetan Buddhism, to Asian-influenced like Zen, Martial Arts like Shaolin, to newer Western forms like Skeptical Buddhism (agnostic Buddhism). There are lots of free ebooks and websites on the basics of Buddhism, as well as some excellent free podcasts. Look around for people who practice Buddhism in your area. It doesn't have to be a group from the school that suits you most: Buddhists tend to be very tolerant of differences in beliefs and preferences. But having others to talk to, ask questions of, and especially experienced teachers to guide you is very helpful. If you don't have a "sangha" (community of practioners) in your area, look on the internet. There are online groups like Tree Leaf, groups that have a physical presence but also do things online like the Insight Meditation Center, and even virtual groups like those in Second Life.
