go have your alternator tested. when they start to go out the alternator will create alot of drag on the engine but then work fine and the engine wont have the drag but the alternator wont put out the correct amount of amperage and the votage will drop increasingly
The power steering pump is on the back side of the engine, on the passenger side, under the alternator. The dipstick is on the cap itself. Unscrew the cap, pull it out, wipe it off, reinsert it, pull it out again, the fluid level should be between the hot and cold marks.
remove pass side strut, steering knuckle, drive shaft and exhaust to get it out through front wheel well Or take to a qualified mechanic and pay $500 labor Take my advice ONLY REPLACE WITH AN AC-DELCO ALTERNATOR you dont want to pay that kind of labor again
Yes, but it will not start again without electricity. alternators only provide electricity when the car is running, they're of no help when the engine needs to be started.
The power steering of Mercedes A Class can be reset by switching off the engine and starting the car again. The power steering fault is quite common in Mercedes A Class and this is either power steering intermittently working, not working at all or operating all the time even when engine is OFF. The last catagory drains the battery. if the power steeering does not work at all then you there may be blown fuse Number 48/49 under the driver foot in the battery compartment. Or it could be due to correded/ broken conections under the washer resevoir or fault in the alternator not producing enough power in the blue wire which enable the power steering. Merc doctor
Check the alternator.
no. you might have to reset the clock and radio.
Fully charge the battery Check with a voltmeter (should read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running) With engine running and good alternator reading should be 13.8-14.2 if the battery is dead the car wont start. replace the battery (preferably with a new one) run the car and if it dies or wont crank again its the alternator (or possibly the alternator belt is slipping)
It's you again is correct. You would have to say it's me again for that one to be correct
a very weak battery , faulty alternator, shorted starter draining the battery resume try those first. Hence fully charge battery, if cars run properly for a few days and starts stalling again after startup then change alternator. --- if the alternator or battery was bad, the car wouldn't make an attempt to start. if you engine starts then a few seconds dies. Check for fuel, Check youer fuel pump relay. See if your fuel is actually getting to the engine by checking the schrader valve on the fuel line. Also check for spark, if you did any tuning, you need to make sure your igntion timing, air/fuel is all correct.
My wife Astra 2002 power steering failed and battery light came on. Now and again you could switch off and start up again and it could go off. Another time in this could weather we would start car up and leave to warm up for some time we also found battery light went off and power steering came back on. We have just brought this car and returned it to the garage where a new alternator was fitted and no problem ,100 amp type so must require some power. So I can only think that e.g. you are getting 4amp ect from alternator and you need 5amp to run the power steering pump motor then this could be why, by the way all lights ,heater rear screen ect were put on and headlight did not dim but was still the alternator. The weather is also very wet and the alternator fit under the car, although there is a cover when hitting water it could still enter the alternator. I hope this helps some of you If not all with these faults .
The engine serial number should have two letters followed by a 6 digit number located under the alternator/generator base. Please look closer and try again.
