Well, Chinese Cresteds today aren't always hairless. There are two varieties, the more famous hairless variety (which actually does have some hair) and the less famous "powderpuff" variety. Powderpuffs are fully coated just like any other breed.

a Mexican hairless is a type of dog. I own two one is grey and the other is pink (or some may call him rose) and just as the the name implies they are indeed hairless, but have some hair on their head that resembles a mow hawk and some scattered hair on their back. The breed origins way far back when people used to use them for heat because they are so warm. These dogs require lots of care such as putting sunscreen on them and keeping them out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.

Because of loss of teeth. If you see a dog of any other breed who has lost its teeth to old age, injury, illness or poor nutrition, their tongues hang out too. The dominant hairless gene comes with poor dentation. Its so common that lack of teeth are accepted in the show ring for the hairless. The puffs are required to have a full set of teeth.
