To flee the invading Lombards from the north
To flee the invading Lombards from the north
beccause they need asafe place to live away from all the disasters that happen in their country
Economic reasons, mostly- sometimes the main local employer, such as a mine, quarry or agricultural concern went bankrupt or relocated, meaning that there was no work for the town's inhabitants, so they too moved on to look for employment elsewhere. In a few cases it has been because of war or disaster- for example, the town of Pripyat in the Ukraine was right next to the Chernobyl nuclear power station, and the inhabitants of that HAD to flee to avoid radiation poisoning. The town of Varosha in Cyprus is a ghost town because of the Turkish invasion of Southern Cyprus in 1974- most of the inhabitants were Greek, who fled fearing Turkish military atrocities, but under the terms of the ceasefire deal, the Turks have agreed not to inhabit it provided that the Greeks respect it as being in the Turkish sector. In other cases, towns have been built by mistake- the developer believed that they would attract new residents and buisnesses keen to experience something new, but badly misjudged the public mood and found that in fact, nobody was really interested in the new venture! So in these cases, nobody has EVER lived in them in the first place. Most of these examples have been in the Far East- China has several new cities that are spanking new with every concievable amenity, but they just don't capture public imagination. They may have a few hundred inhabitants, but not the tens of thousands that the Government in Peking dreamed of, simply because folks are happy where they are and see no reason to move just for the sake of moving. It should be mentioned that in the case of the USA, most 'ghost towns' didn't become so overnight- the inhabitants gradually drifted away over a period of several years, so they were not COMPLETELY uninhabited for a long time after their main economic source became unviable.
Physical features have a tremendous effect on culture and history. One example is the Yellow River floods. The Yellow (Huang He) River is the most important single land form in China. over one hundred million people live along its banks, trying to make a living off the extremely fertile soil it carries in its current (this silt, or loess is so fertile, it is actually yellow in color, and the river itself is literally a yellowish brown color, hence the name). But this incredible resource is also called "China's Sorrow". Why? Because yearly it floods, killing hundreds or thousands of innocent people who could not flee, as there is no early warning system to indicate they should evacuate. China's blessing is also its curse.Another example is monsoon rains. They, too come yearly, and are far more predictable. You can usually guess when they will come within two days. It starts with a slow, off and on drizzle, but will build up as time goes on.It will likely never be a heavy downpour, but the rains simply don't ever stop completely, and massive flooding ensues. Once again, hundreds may die, so it seems to be a catastrophe. But, without these rains, part of China's economy would collapse. In Southern China, it is warm enough to grow rice, a staple food in this region, and around the world. Rice needs a warm climate, but it also needs a lot of water. Normally, it would be difficult to irrigate the land, because most farmers use terracing to farm on hills, because there is so little flat land. However, with the help of the steady rains, there is plenty of water to grow all the crops China needs. In other words, the people of China have altered their lifestyle to fit their physical surroundings. This is true pretty much anywhere you look in China and elsewhere (unless people have altered their physical surroundings to fit their lifestyle, as in the US and much of Europe). People of the Gobi Desert, Tibetan Plateau, and North China Plain all have different cultures and histories, to match their varying and diverse geographical situations.p.s. if you wanna quote that, be sure to give me credit in real tiny print ^^

Refugees flee from countries where they are persecuted (harassed, or worse) by the government) to countries where they can live in peace and lead normal lives. An obvious example is Jews fleeing from Nazi Germany to, say, Britain or the U.S.
Refugees are forced to flee their home countries due to persecution, war, or violence. They often face threats to their safety and well-being, leading them to seek refuge in other countries where they hope to find safety and protection. Refugees must meet specific criteria set by international law to be officially recognized as refugees.
