The Australian Alps are the high mountains found in southeast Australia. the term "alps" is a bit of a misnomer: the highest of these mountains, Mt Kosciuszko, is only 2228 m high, which is a far lower elevation than the alps found in Europe, in places such as Switzerland and Austria.
