"Colonialism" is a term that may be used as a starting point in explaining why the official languages in the countries of South America - and indeed all of Latin America - originated in Europe.
Specifically, the term refers to the setting up of colonies that interact dependently and subordinately to Another Country or entity. That interaction at its most extreme involves control over cultures, economies, polities and societies. An example may be seen in the development of Latin American countries by European explorers, missionaries and settlers. The critical decisions over how land was going to be used were made in European languages. So economic control had side-effects on the languages that emerged as dominant and that became official with participation, as sovereign or dependent entities, in the modern world.
In actuality, such a course of events was nothing new to the native populations of Latin America. For example, the militant expansion of the Aztec and Inca empires that took place just before European arrivals yielded similar side-effects in terms of dominant culture, economics, language, politics and society.

The official languages of Latin American countries are primarily European due to the history of colonization by European powers like Spain and Portugal. These colonial powers imposed their languages on the indigenous populations, leading to the widespread adoption of Spanish and Portuguese across the region.
The Tower of Babel etiology could address the question of how different languages and cultures originated. It explains the diversity of languages by attributing them to the dispersion of people after the construction of the tower and the ensuing confusion of tongues.

Different languages evolved in different regions due to separate groups of people developing their own communication systems over time. Factors such as geographic isolation, cultural diversity, and historical migrations contributed to the diversity of languages around the world. Additionally, languages also influence and shape each other through interactions like trade, conquest, and colonization.

European countries took over practically every country on Earth at one time or another. They have spread their culture, language, foods, etc. by this. This is the reason to why many European languages (for example, English, French, and Spanish) are among the top spoken languages in the world. This also explains the Western civilizations outside of Europe, as in Canada and the United States.
