Under the hood.
Not true. At least on the 1989 it was under the dash on the passenger side were the passenger's feet would be. You remove one cover and the drain pan. Remove a second cover on the left side of the box. The heater core is there.
Before removing. Drain all the antifreeze from the radiator and remove the quick connect heater hoses from the heater core under the hood.
