the cv axle wasnt completely tightened causing the hub bearing to go out
Getting a new half axle might be the way to go on this one. It will probably be the next thing to go anyways
Only if you want it to work.lol. Yes it does, if not you will leak fluids and put the axle on a bind making it wear faster or break. it could even damage the splines in the tranny
most shops will want to replace entire axle shaft which is the way to go, depending on where you take it should cost 175-250 per axle,
My 94 Grand Cherokee Limited is in the shop right now for a gas leak, and a broke CV axle. They estimated @ 400 for the CV axle if I dexcide to do it. The shop actually said if I am not 4x4ing, the jeep would go another 10 years without fixing it, it will just make the noises, but otherwise is ok not to fix????
Change the entire drive shaft. Chances are, if the boot needs to be replaced, the axle will go out because moisture and dirt has contaminated the CV bearings.
I can recommend www.buyyourcar.co.uk/car-parts/part/cv-joint. They offer wide range of products and competitive prices. They're customer service is also very good.
It's a pain. The inner cv joint goes into the transmission and "snaps" into place by a little ring around the shaft. To get it out you must somehow pull the cv axel straight out toward you. It's not easy. I cheat and use an old dent puller tool. there is no easy way to get it out. Be creative. You gotta replace it anyway so go nuts. Lol.
first with the car on the ground loosen the axle nut with a 32 or 34 mm axle nut socket ( abt 15.00 at kragens this is a special deep socket it comes in handy ) then you jack the car up on the specific side and remove wheel then take brake hub off then take off the axel nut all the way then put a pan under the axle ( the end that goes in to transmission because fluid will spill ) then dont yank but gently pry and pull the axle out ( it has to go through the horseshoe bottom of strut youll see ) then reverse all steps to install new cv axle be careful not to be to hasty take your time and when axle nut is back on torque it down
the cv joint's or constant velocity joint's are located on either side of the transmission. They come out of the trans and extend to the center of the front wheel hubs. you normally have two cv joint's per axle. I would recomend replacing both axle's, while your down in there any way. it is only a matter of time before the other one go's depending on milage! Hope that helps you! Oh i forgot your best bet to finding a diagram would be to purchase a repair manual from any auto parts store for your car, then you'll have it for future references.
I have a 2000 kia spectra also and went to replace the CV axel and now having major issues with tranny. The spider gear in which the cv goes through has drop into the trans and cv wont install. I dont understand how the gear just fell into the trans, but it did and Cv wont go in and I am stuck with pulling trans and taking it apart. Its a automatic. Any advise would be great.
The CV joint has gone bad. You can purchase a rebuilt drive axle and CV joint on eBay for $49.00. I would recommend changing them both at the same time.
