By the meaning of best im going with talented, and i would have to say that dream theater is the best heavy metal band in the technical aspect.

Atreyu, Sevendust, Avenged Sevenfold, All that Remains, Anew Revolution, Disturbed, Dope, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, Eighteen Visions, Five Finger Death Punch, Mudvayne, Nonpoint, Pantera, Papa Roach, Skindred, Soil, Soilwork, Static X, Stone Sour, 12 stones, As I lay dying, Metallica, 30 seconds to mars, Linkin Park,Three days grace and Bullet for my Valentine, Chimaira. Of all the bands mentioned above only: Metallica and Pantera are considered metals bands. The rest are just alternative rock bands; they have no specific genre. Other rock metal bands include: Megadeth, AC/DC, Motorhead, Danzig, Motley Crue, etc.

whoa dude slipknot is not the best metal band ever. Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Opeth, Nile, Korn, dream theater, iron maiden, anthrax and sooooo many more are far better

to me the best metal bands are slipknot, metallica, black sabbath, whitechapel, Marilyn Manson, all that remains, disturbed, bullet for my valentine,killswitch engage, and trivium.!!!!!
