When the Lord formed the earth and the seas all of the earth was in one place, there were no countries as we know them now. As Adam and Ever were the first missionaries to their own family in a certain part of this combined earth. When the earth was divided the place for the first missionaries did not chage but remained in what is now called America.

George Liele (George Leile or George Lisle). He was an African American who was part of the slave-trade before the United States of America became a nation. George Liele is considered to be America's first missionary. He chose to leave America in 1782 to start a church in Kingston, Jamaica. This was 10 years before William Carey left England for India, and 20 years before Adoniram Judson left America for Burma.

Foreign Missionary (New York) 1842-1886 The first missionary arrived in Singapore in 1838. The first mission station on Chinese soil was opened by Dr. D.B. McCartee at Ningbo, Zhejiang, on 21 June 1844.

The southern element withdrew in 1863. In 1959 the PN merged with the United Presbyterian Church of North America to form the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, The Commission of Ecumenical Mission and Relations. Since 1973 it is known as the General Assembly Mission Council.

In 1925 the churches connected with 26 of the American Presbyterians, North, stations became affiliated with the Church of Christ in China; the churches connected with five stations in Shandong were members of the Presbyterian Church in China. All missions were represented on a China Council, the coordinating body in China. They had a common treasurer in Shanghai.

In 1921 the former six Woman's Boards merged into one national Board, known as The Woman's Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., which in turn consolidated with the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1923.
