In the Iliad, Menelaus easily defeats Paris, but Aphrodite removes him from the battlefield before Menelaus can land the final blow. Since this is a story told by the Greeks, they paint Paris as a coward, and unskilled in battle, so this reinforces the point. Without satisfaction, Menelaus and Agamemnon continue the siege. Meanwhile, back in Paris' chamber, Helen is somewhat unimpressed with Paris' lack of martial skill, but Aphrodite forces her to be with Paris, fulfilling the goddess' promise to the Prince.
