Peter Nivio Zarlenga was my 2nd oldest brother.
He was the son of Italian immigrants who sacrificed everything for their children. Honest hardworking people.
He was born in 1944 on Chicago's West side. A large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins surrounded him. They all lived in a 3 flat building on Fairfield street. Each family occupied a floor.
He was a courageous and joyful young boy and demonstrated a streak of independence from a very young age. He was an amazing athlete and became a long distance swimmer. As a teenager he became a Chicago lifeguard and he was stationed at Oak street and 13th street beaches thruout his tenure, he received several commendations for rescue and lifesaving episodes.
He was a brilliant, thoughtful lover of humanity and built people up in a way that gave them strength and insight to pursue their dreams. Always grounded in the truth. Always grounded in reality. He was a Vietnam era U.S Army veteran.
He was a student of the Great books. He founded the Flight Organization for Personal Achievment.
He became an author and orator. His spirit inspired many. He was greatly loved.
I met Peter back on the 80´s due to a common friend we have in Capistrano, Ca. Without knowing anything on him,, was amaze when he start talking. Remembered as one of my most fascinating experiences to be in front of a genius, listining to him for almost 2 hours. I hope he still remembers me and wish could know how to contact him. Diego F.
