The AR-15 was a further development from scaling down the AR-10 rifle. Eugene Stoner designed the AR-10, but L. James Sullivan was primarily responsible for the development of the AR-15 from the AR-10.

∙ 14y agoEugene Stoner invented the rifle in 1957 in Los Angeles, California. The M16 (AR-15) back then, was sent for testing in South Vietnam in 1961 as a "jungle warfare" rifle. Spraying bullets, rather than long range accurate firing. More were sent in 1962. By 1963, M16s became general issue to US forces in Vietnam.
