The malasses produced during the process led to the discovery of rum by slaves. Slaves in the US were many harvestors of cotton and tobacco. They also did mostly all manual labor including the construction of the Capitol and the first White House.

Cotton is currently picked by machine. They used to have slaves pick the cotton in the south by hand. You seem to have forgotton the people (both white & black) that picked cotton after the slaves & before the cotton picking machines.
