Australia has never had a president. Australia has only had Prime Ministers. Prime minister are appointed by the parliamentary group or party that has won the most seats at the last election. The closest thing that Australia has to President is the Governor general. He is appointed by the prime minister and has some very limited constitutional powers. one of which is to be able to dismiss the government under the right circumstances.
