This is quite a complicated question; according to Genesis 1, God made the following in this order: Heaven and Earth

Water (implied as God moved over the surface of the water)

Light and Dark

A Firmanent

Dry Land and Seas

Grass, Herb and Tree

All the stars (apart from the Sun)

The Sun and Moon

Sea Creatures and Fowl

Land Creatures

Man However, in Genesis 2, what is made and the order is different: The Earth and Heaven and seeds

Mist

Man

Trees

Rivers

Beasts of the field and Fowl of the air

Answer

Woman So there is no definitive answer to that question. As the previous Answer has explained, there are actually two, quite contradictory, creation stories in Genesis.

Answer In the beginning was ' the Word', and the Word was with God. The 'Word' is the first name God gave to Jesus. Then the angels and souls were created [made] before the "..foundation of the earth".

It is easy to read The Bible to say that God created people before he created Adam, because there are two creation stories (Genesis 1:1-2:4a; Genesis 2:4b-25) and each has its own very different account of God creating man. In Genesis 1:27, in the first creation story, God creates man and woman together, then at 2:7, he creates a man (Adam) alone. An ancient tradition is that God created Lilith, who is mentioned in the Book of Isaiah, but she is really based on a Babylonian myth, not a Hebrew one.

Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says to understand Genesis we must scrupulously avoid reading into the second story any facts or notions taken from the first, and vice versa. One effect of this is that we must not think of the first creation story preceding the second in time, nor should we interpret one as a summary or retelling of the other. If we are reading the second creation story, the creation of Adam was God's first act of creation; there was no one and nothing created by God before him.

There are actually two creation stories in Genesis, each purporting to report God's creation of man.. The first account (1:1 to 2:4a) is considered by scholars to have been written by the Priestly Source. The second account (2:4b and following) is considered to be from the Yahwist Source.

The existence of the two separate accounts can make it appear that man (both male and female) was created before Adam ("man"), whose creation is described in 2:7. In fact, the second account (2:4b and following) is actually the older account in Judaism.

Mankind was the last of God's creations.

Background: Day by day, God created the universe and everything in it (Genesis ch.1).God created the universe out of nothing (Exodus 20:11, Isaiah 40:28; Rashi commentary to Genesis 1:14; Maimonides' "Guide," 2:30). Nachmanides on Gen. 1:1 states emphatically that this is a fundamental tradition.Note that the Torah, in describing the Creation, deliberately employs brevity and ellipsis, just as it does in many other topics. See the Talmud, Hagigah 11b.

On day 1: God created the universe in general, light, and this Earth. The light was not the same as that of the sun. Rather, it was light that God created before the sun, and which emanated from a point in space without any physical source; like what we might term a "white hole."

On day 2: God created the separation between the Earth and the upper atmosphere.

On day 3: God separated the continents from the oceans, and created plants.

On day 4: God created the sun, moon, and stars.

On day 5: God created birds and fish.

On day 6: God created animals and people.

On day 7: God ceased creating, thereby creating the concept of rest.

Note that according to tradition, there is only one Genesis creation-narrative, with ch.2 serving as an expansion of the brevity of ch.1, not a separate set of events (Rashi commentary, Gen. 2:8).

The same literary devices which the Torah employs to enrich its text, have been used by Bible-critics in an attempt to reassign its authorship.

While Judaism has always seen the Torah as an intricate tapestry that nonetheless had one Divine source, some modern authors such as Wellhausen (the father of modern Biblical-criticism, 1844-1918) have suggested artificially chopping up the narrative and attributing it to various authors, despite the Torah's explicit statement as to its provenance (Exodus 24:12, Deuteronomy 31:24). This need not concern believers, since his claims have been debunked one by one, as Archaeology and other disciplines have demonstrated the integrity of the Torah. No fragments have ever been found that would support his Documentary Hypothesis, which remains nothing more than an arbitrary claim.
