Henry Knox was responsible for bringing the 60 cannon the 300 miles from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston during the Revolutionary War. He was the first Secretary of War for the United States and responsible for getting Washington's troop's across the Delaware. He was a bookstore owner in Boston (at the time of the Boston Massacre), and married to a woman whose parents were devout English loyalists. When the patriots drove the British out of Boston, in large part due to the cannon Knox got from Toconderoga, her parents left Boston and she never saw them again.

Henry Knox served as a Patriot general, acting as Washington's artillery commander. During the siege of Boston in 1775, Know was instrumental in bringing the siege to the end, by dragging the dozens of guns, mortars and howitzers captured at Fort Ticonderoga to Boston over rough winter terrain.
The cannons from Fort Ticonderoga in upstate New York, captured in May 1775, were carried overland to Dorchester Heights overlooking Boston, from which they could have shelled the city. A storm caused a British counterattack to be canceled, and the British forces in Boston (who had earlier planned to leave anyway) evacuated by ship on March 17, 1776.
General Howe left Boston after Henry Knox brought cannons from Ticonderoga and George Washington deployed them on Dorchester Heights. From that position Howes ships wer sitting ducks in Boston Harbor. Howe also felt that Boston was a very difficult place to defend because of the hiily terain and many estuaries etc. Howe told Washington he would not burn the city if he were allowed to leave the city with his army unharmed. Howe did not know that Washington had no gun powder! Washington allowed Howe to leave Boston. General Howe evacuated Boston and sailed for Nova Scotia in early 1776. There he waited for the return of spring and the proper weather for campaigning (his main objective would be New York) and more importantly reinforcements from England. Relatively, yes, if you're talking latitude. However, Ticonderoga is not in Massachusetts, it's in New York, on the border of Vermont, just south of Lake Champlain. So it's pretty far northwest of Boston, not really near Boston at all.
