The first European navigator considered to have traveled a great distance, in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe was Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer. He was the captain of the first expedition that had the intention of reaching Asia from Europe, He attempted to do this by rounding the newly found world of the Americas and crossing the Pacific Ocean.
Ferdinand Magellan did not survive his attempt to circumnavigate the globe.
