Complications (legends, rumors, etc.) and time have clouded the truth about a 15 year US Marine Kia during the war. 5 sixteen year olds, 12 seventeen year olds, 120 foreign born, 25,000 men under the age of 20, 17,000 married men, and one 62 year old man died in the Vietnam War.

What was the youngest age of the troops in the us for the Vietnam war?

GI's in Vietnam were as young as 16; age 19 could have been possible for a 2nd Lieutenant; age 20 to 21 was probably more common, if to be the youngest. College degrees were NOT required for US Army officers during the Vietnam War. They were required for the USN, USMC, and USAF. USA officers were drafted, then tested for their GT scores, 110 or above qualified them for Army OCS (Officer Candidate School; graduates from these schools in WW2 were nick-named "90 Day Wonders").

How could a soldier be deferred from the draft during the Vietnam War?

You meant "man" being deferred from the draft. If he's already a "soldier" he's already in the army. How to avoid the draft? Stay in college, carry 18 units, maintain a 2.0 average, and you don't have to serve your country!

Who was the youngest person to serve in the civil war?

My Great Great Great Grandfather, who was a Confederate Solider from East Tennessee, died at age 95. He was the oldest man to serve in the Civil War. Without a name for this 95 year old soldier, it is difficult to discuss and verify. It also depends on the precise question. The oldest person to actually SERVE in the Civil War is sometimes said to be Curtis King, who was 80 years old at the time he served in 37th Iowa Infantry. Other Civil War veterans lived to much older ages, but Curtis King was 80 years old while he was serving in the war.
