There were many including both Grant and Lee who were junior officers during the Mexican Ameican War. Winfield Scott was a US Army General in both wars. Sterling Price was a US Army General in Mexico and New Mexico during the Mexican American War and a Confederate States Major General in the US Civil War. Price spent four years between the Wars as the Governor of the US State of Missouri.
